Gotye早期经历：

1，Gotye在1980年出生于比利时的Bruges，在他两岁的时候，全家移居到了澳大利亚墨尔本。在他上学时，他的父母选择Walter作为Gotye的名字。

2，在很小的时候，Gotye就表现出了对音乐的热情，开始学习各种乐器，尤其喜欢钢琴还有鼓。在他少年时期，Gotye和他的3个高中好友组成了乐队Downstares，Gotye是乐队的主要创作人，他们的音乐反应出Gotye喜欢的音乐家DepecheMode和KateBush对他的影响。

3，在高中毕业后，Downstares的成员开始四处分离。在2001年，Gotye的父母搬家，在Victoria的Montmorency留下一座房子以便让Gotye完成学业。

4，Gotye的两个朋友住了进来，这座房子也被亲切的称为“TheFratHouse"，Gotye的朋友时常的会来这座房子拜访或者留宿，终于，Gotye又可以继续他们的音乐梦想了。

5，Gotye的音乐之梦始于他收到的一堆录音带——他的一个老邻居的已经去世了的太太，在这些年中录制的他们乐队的排练时的录音带。
